A central theme of our research group is a synthesis of molecules with novel functions and properties. We are using tools of synthetic organic chemistry, molecular biology and biochemistry to create small molecules, peptides, proteins and RNAs by both rational and combinatorial approaches. A variety of in vitro and in vivo screening methods are applied to the resulting molecules to study biological pathways and to identify biologically active molecules. The current research project, Titled “Dual genetic selection of synthetic riboswitches for TMAO as genetic and analytical tools” was presented at TCU’s annual Student Research Symposium, (SRS) in April 2024 Show less

      Harris Emergency Room

Pre-Health students will have the opportunity to apply to participate in this internship. This is typically an 8-10 week experience, with 25-40 hours per week. Students will be given a hands-on learning experience in a hospital setting. This internship provides daily, around-the-clock exposure to the demands of the profession. In the words of TCU Alum and current medical school student, Troy Gurney, the experience in this internship program was “really rewarding to see that doctors and people who are in the profession want you to be a part of it, want you to join their profession. Anyone on the medical team, they were all willing to teach you, talk to you and just make your experience better.” Show less
