Watson Internet of Things is the key strategic area for IBM, where we over the next years will invest 3 Billion dollars.Internet of Things is often talked about as the 4th Industrial Revolution. It is quickly becoming the largest collective source of data on the planet, generating tremendous amounts of structured and unstructured data every second of every day. The IoT will become a primary data source feeding cognitive computing technologies like Watson; similarly, cognitive computing will increasingly be needed to unlock the full value of IoT data.The Watson IoT Center in Munich will bring together IBM researchers, developers and consultants in a "campus environment” to drive collaborative innovation and deeper engagement with clients and partners from around the world. The IBM Munich Center will serve as a melting point where we cultivate the most vibrant global ecosystem of clients, startups, researchers and academics from every industry.I have joined this Division to establish the necessary structures to drive business results out of this exciting move. Show less In 2004, IBM made a major acquisition (Maersk data and DM data) that consisted of 41 services companies including over 3,500 people, The acquisition is subject to review each year by the IBM Board of Directors and quarterly reviews by the IBM CFO personally. The quarterly reviews contain a status of the acquisition compared with the original business commitment. This require constant attention and adjustment as the 41 businesses increasingly become integrated, divested or evolve. The job also involves strategic decision making related to various spin-off projects and evaluations of divestitures. As a result of the acquisition, we have established a competence center for Freight Logistics, where we target large shipping lines and freight forwarders around the world with IT services - everything from consulting to IT Outsourcing.
