As Product Specialist for UNIX based systems, Solaris, HP-UX, Digital Unix, Silicon Graphics' Irix, I supported clients and projects, ensured controlled product configuration, installation, deployment, and maintenance. I trained other systems administrators and users on UNIX OS, and platform specifics with regard to systems functioning, capabilities, and optimal configuration. - Contracted to Sun Microsystems in USA to perform Y2K bug testing on Sun hardware and Solaris Operating system. I authored the official Y2K test suit for a large Insurance firm in New York City. - Assisted in transfer of Nedcor’s Cape of Good Hope Bank, from a mainframe environment onto Dual SUN Sparc Server 1000s running the Solaris Operating system. Designed spatial data analytics systems utilizing ESRI tools to deliver client centric spatial decision solutions. - Designed and developed a generic Role based authentication framework, which could be utilized for various web and mobile applications. Developed in Java, the system could integrate to PostgreSQL, MS Sql Server, Oracle database or LDAP for authentication.- Developed a Real-time lightening GIS application: Web based GIS application interfacing to the weather services lightning sensors, which were positioned around the country, to show lightning strikes in real-time on a South African map. It allowed live monitoring of the storms movement and strength, showing voltage, cloud-to-cloud, and cloud-to-ground strikes. Historic storm replays were also supported. Show less

  Eskom Rotek Industries (ERI) is a subsidiary of Eskom holdings (South Africa’s electricity provider), established to provide support services, like construction and maintenance to Eskom.As Senior IT Advisor and Developer in ERI’s Cabling division, I provided advice and guidance to management teams and other IT Professionals with regard to Enterprise Architecture, Risk and Governance, software design and development. - Facilitated the IT systems re-design and procurement process for a distributed architecture, at various power stations.- Designed and developed a very fast customized index builder and search engine for the Enterprise wide master materials list. The master materials list was originally located in SAP, but the search and retrieval was limited, inaccurate and slow in SAP. The new system was based on Apache Lucene for its speed, advanced query analysis and tokenization capabilities - In response to the inefficient IT systems supporting the fundamental business operations of the ERI cabling division, I engaged with business, stakeholders and operations personal to understand the business processes and requirements and the current landscape. With the Business analysis process complete, I designed and developed a Cable Management System (CMS), capable of managing, tracking, and reporting the full operational process of power and C&I cable installation, termination and QA. This system is currently the core system for ERI cabling operations; it is in operation at various power stations, as-built and new-build, and currently the most crucial component in the new-build, Kusile power station, in Witbank South Africa.
