  PhD candidate of the Propulsion and Power group of TU Delft working on the ARENA project, which explores the feasibility of employing compact ORC waste heat recovery units to harvest thermal energy from aero engines to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. My research focuses on the optimal design of compact heat exchangers and their integration within the airframe, thermodynamic cycles, and ram air cooling ducts. The main milestones I achieved in my research endeavors can be summarized as follows:- Development of software for the automated design and optimization of compact HXs for airborne applications, and integration within the the system design framework for combined cycle engine architectures.- Employed neural networks (MLPs) as regressors for optimal preliminary design prediction and integrated the surrogate model within combined-cycle aero engine system design optimization frameworks.- Developed improved ram air cooling duct design and off-design tools in Python and assessed the model accuracy against RANS simulations. The model was then used to develop new correlations and preliminary design guidelines for airborne ram air cooling ducts. Show less
