    • Brothers of Charity Services Ireland

      Sept 2014 - Dec 2014
      Placement Student

As part of my second year work placement for my college course, I worked in the day services of the Brothers of Charity. I worked with adults with an intellectual disability. My role involved creating personal visual schedules for the service users, based on their interests and hobbies. I brought the service users to any appointments they needed to attend. I assisted the service users in undertaking their activities such as bingo, computer work, art and social activities such as eating in restaurants and shopping. I really enjoyed helping the service users achieve their personal goals and this gave me a sense of fulfillment. It was interesting to learn about the different challenges the service users faced and I finished my placement with more confidence to pursue a career working with people with disabilities. • East Limerick Children's Services

      Sept 2015 - Dec 2015
      Placement Student

For my third year work placement, I had a keen interest in working with young children with disabilities. In the East Limerick Children's Services Centre, I worked on the 0-6 year team where I had many roles and responsibilities. I worked in the pre-school every morning followed by group interventions with children in the afternoon. I was fortunate enough to work alongside a multi-disciplinary team so I really got an insight into the different areas I could work in once I am qualified. From working in the pre-school, I learned different approaches to teaching the children and it was very rewarding to see their gradual progress. I enjoyed working as part of a team which included nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, etc. and it was interesting to see how important their roles are to the children. I loved working in this placement and found that working with young children with disabilities is the area I would like to pursue once I am qualified. Show less
