As part of my role as Construction Co-Ordinator, I project manage the telecom connectivity into new and existing HV stations and other ESB locations such as generation stations, radio hillsites and office locations during the construction phase, in particular for the fibre installation and Microwave radio installations.I am also the project manager for the Telecoms aspects of ongoing ESB office refurbishment projects that are taking place nationally. this work requires structured cabling upgrades, IT equipment such as routers, switches and AP upgrades and ensuring the required building services infrastructures are in place such as air conditioning and the required backup power ensuring the project is delivered as per scope and within budget. My role requires extensive stakeholder engagement with various teams including the PSPD Co-Ordinator, Architects, ESB project managers, Network Telecoms designers, fibre and copper contractors, Rigging contractors, Eir and the construction PSCS for each locations. For each task, I ensure that RAMS are submitted and reviewed in advance by Safety Officers and the PICW and carry out site audits to ensure work is completed safely. I am part of the ESB fibre strategy committee to discuss various fibre projects and potential network upgrades to discuss the capacity and diversification improvements that these projects would deliver, and I successful, I will bring these projects through the construction phase, right through to completion and integration with the larger ESB Network In addition to my primary role, I am the safety Representative for the Networks Telecoms department of around 100 people. As part of this role, I engage with the Networks Telecoms staff and management to bring any identified issues to senior management for discussion in confidence. I am also a member of the National Safety Committee with ESB Networks and attend bi-monthly meetings to discuss various issues that have arisen as a safety rep. As part of the role, I was responsible for the Telecom design aspects of new substation builds and existing substation upgrades. The role of the designer looked at the customer’s teleprotection, SCADA, telephony and metering requirements that are initially provided by means of a Committed Project Parameter (CPP) document. From this, I produced various design documents including Telecoms Scope of Works, cost estimates, detailed design drawings and various pre specifications. Throughout the HV projects, from design stage, right through construction to completion, I engaged with various stakeholders including ESB Networks, ESB E&MP, Eirgird, IPPs and contractors through PSDP Co-ordination meetings and site meetings to ensure that the Telecoms aspect of the projects were compelted as scoped. Show less I worked as part of the WAN team in ESB Network Telecoms on ESB Networks extensive telecommunications network throughout Ireland. The network, which is primarily used for SCADA and teleprotection traffic for the DSO and the TSO, uses a vast range of legacy PDH, SDH and TDM and also IP networks via different mediums including fibre optic, microwave radio and satellite communication.I am involved with new installations including microwave link and fibre multiplexers from the initial design, budgeting, installation, testing, commissioning right through to handover to the customer. As part of my role, I was a part time designer for new substation builds and upgrades from a telecoms aspect. The role of the designer looks at the customer’s teleprotection, SCADA, telephony and metering requirements. This has helped me gain a better understanding of the fibre, PLC (Powerline Carrier), radio, telephony, civil work and DC power requirements that are necessary for Greenfield new builds and upgrades of existing sites, required to integrate the new HV substations.
