      Scientist

Work-package leader in Maritime Situational Awareness (MSA) group, research department of CMRE.I lead a group of young and visiting scientists. My group and I are involved in several scientific activities and research projects inside and outside NATO. Our activity consists of the development of signal processing techniques applied to surveillance sensor network systems. Specifically, we are currently developing the signal processing chain for different kind of sensor network technologies, including low-power radar sensor network (X-band and HF surface wave), sonar AUV network, transponder based satellite-terrestrial sensors, and IR cameras. A special emphasis is given to the study of distributed and autonomous signal processing and control techniques applied to networked systems. Typically, these techniques are scientifically validated and tested during NATO experimentation in the field of maritime security and anti-submarine warfare. Some of the achieved results have been published on the most prestigious scientific journals and presented to the most important conferences. Furthermore, I am involved in several scientific collaborations about academic problems with some of the most prestigious universities and research institutions in Europe and United States. My research interests include statistical signal processing with emphasis on detection and estimation theory, wireless sensor network paradigm, multi-agent algorithms, target tracking and data fusion algorithms, adaptive sensor networks, signal processing in the encrypted domain, algorithms for distributed network of radar (sonar) systems, cognitive networked systems, cognitive network of AUVs. Currently, I am an active member of the scientific community as associate editor for the IEEE Transactions on Signal, IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, ISIF Journal of Advances in Information Fusion, EURASIP Journal of Advances in Signal Processing. I lead a group of young and visiting scientists. We are involved in several scientific activities and research projects funded by NATO, EU, US and Canada. We develop signal/information processing techniques applied to surveillance sensor network systems and maritime traffic data. Specifically, we are currently developing the signal processing chain for different kind of sensor network technologies, including low-power radar sensor network (X-band and HF surface wave), sonar AUV network, transponder based satellite-terrestrial sensors, and IR cameras. Special emphasis is given to the study of distributed and autonomous networked systems. We also study maritime traffic models to predict the time evolution of the vessels' kinematic for maritime surveillance (association with other sensors) and anomaly detection. Typically, these techniques are scientifically validated and tested during NATO experimentation in the field of maritime security and anti-submarine warfare. Some of the achieved results have been published on the most prestigious scientific journals and presented to the most important conferences. Currently, I am an active member of the scientific community as associate editor for the IEEE Transactions on Signal, IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, ISIF Journal of Advances in Information Fusion, EURASIP Journal of Advances in Signal Processing. I have been awarded with the National Scientific Qualification (Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale) to function as associate professor in Italian Universities. Show less
