I am honored to say that I was involved in such an event, especially considering where my lineage originates. History is important in Klopse culture, and the carnival is as much about raucous celebration and fun as it is about sustaining a long-standing custom. I had to think about a lot of things before joining an event of this importance, such as how I would use my skills, the audience's expectations, etc.I had worked on the events photography for KKKA for 6 weeks which includes the street parade and stadium competition, the final concept for the event's logo, which needed just to be improved, and 3D modeling for what is meant to be a concept as a symbolic token. From this event came many rewards for me, big and small. A few that I can mention is that my pictures were in the daily voice every wednesday of the event, popular muslim radio and LoveCapeTown posted the pictures on their socials and as the biggest accomplishment for the event was that my pictures ended up on the cover of Big Issue or February 2023.Every year, the Kaapse Klopse detonates onto the streets of Cape Town for the Tweede Nuwe Jaar Minstrel Parade, filling them with a whirlwind of color, singing, drumbeats, and movement. The customary day is January 2nd (Known as Tweede Nuwe Jaar). One part of the larger carnival is this enjoyable one-day street procession. The Tweede Nuwe Jaar Street party is said to have originated during the colonial era, when slavery was common in South Africa. A single day off per year was given to slaves: January 2. As a result, while their owners slept after the festivities of New Year's Day, slaves celebrated and expressed themselves via vivacious song and dancing in the streets. The same kind of celebration was used after slaves were freed in the 1830s, and it persisted throughout the New Year's season. Show less

Second year of being part of the KKKA team for the biggest cultural event in Africa, the Cape Town Street Parade. For this year, I was focused more on content creation instead of design in comparison to the year before. Once again, I had the privilege of having my photographs featured on various media outlets and it is always a proud feeling to see it be recognised.
