  I founded Sustainable Design & Consulting (SDC) in 2010 after working in engineering and technology companies for over a decade. I developed a commitment to sustainable technology and engineering practices. My company has a single focus – research, planning and design of sustainable buildings and infrastructure.. Adding sustainability considerations into each project is rewarding and also has made our services more valuable to customers. Here are some of the highlights over the past couple of years:• Lead designer in a large sustainable infrastructure project that develops a light industrial park next to an environmental sensitive area. The use of a comprehensive sustainability approach for the construction and completed industrial park helped to get community buy-in and support from the permitting agencies. The project includes an advanced stormwater treatment with rainwater harvesting for the entire development, advanced onsite wastewater treatment, the development of a restored habitat at the site perimeter and other green building features.• Working on an innovative energy project, which included implementing comprehensive energy savings, electricity demand management and energy security planning. • Status as the only company in Hawaii that provides service in “Green cooling and Comfort” as a strategy to save energy and money in AC-systems and to increase the indoor comfort with green technology.• Research with University of Hawaii agencies on energy modeling, modeling of thermal comfort and of flow through buildings, and the use of alternative and energy saving cooling and dehumidification technologies.   It is said that one of the indispensable traits of a good professional is good writing skills. And that is true as I found out. Writing has not always come easy for me since, being an engineer and scientist, I think more in numbers and systems. But over the past 10 years I have authored over one hundred larger reports and publications and through this experience I have come to appreciate good writing skills. I have learned and started to appreciate that writing is much like telling a story, it must be engaging to and must strike the interest of the reader. Show less
