  My master thesis is a part of a research of Götz Eichhorn; From Arctic to Temperate : how do barnacle geese cope with new breeding environments?I focussed on the antimicrobial activity in eggs; Can Barnacle Geese influence the amount of albumen Lysozymes and ovotransferrin in their eggs as a respond to environmental factors? Activities:- fieldwork in Tobseda, Russia: monitoring nests, tagging and taking bloodsamples of chicks, catching and banding adults;- lab work, in Groningen, the Netherlands at RUG: analyses of the egg samples;- data analysis in Wageningen, the Netherlands at WURThe results suggest that the Barnacle geese of the researched populations do partly adapt the amount of antimicrobial defences in their eggs to their breeding environment.   Internship is a part of the study ‘Impact of artificial light on flora and fauna in The Netherlands’ (http://www.lichtopnatuur.org/). I looked at the effect of artificial light on the timing of egg laying, clutch size and egg volume of free living Great tits (Parus major). The study consisted of a field and an aviary experiment.Data collection: mistnetting, monitoring nest boxes, banding and measuring chicks, catching, banding and measuring parents, taking blood samples of both chicks and parents;The first results show there is some effect of light (the study will be repeated in the coming years).
