      WESCOM is a full-service E9-1-1 PSAP and dispatch center for eight police departments (Braidwood, Channahon, Crest Hill, Elwood, Lockport, Plainfield, Shorewood, Wilmington) and twelve fire protection districts (Braidwood, Channahon, Custer Park, Elwood, Homer, Lockport, Minooka, NW Homer, Plainfield, Rockdale, Troy, Wilmington) in Will, Kendal, and Grundy Counties in Illinois. WESCOM has 24 full-time and 8 part-time Telecommunicators, and 7 staff members. WESCOM is a unit of local government formed under the Illinois Intergovernmental Cooperation Act (5-ILCS-220).WESCOM processes over 60,000 E9-1-1 calls, and over 180,000 other call types annually. WESCOM owns and operates a wireless alarm system in support of the WESCOM municipalities that have direct-connect ordinances, and supports voluntary connection for many other communities in the WESCOM footprint for fire, security, and medical alarms.Steve has been in the fire service since 1972. He holds an AAS Degree from College of DuPage and completed Bachelor of Science program work from Southern Illinois University, and holds Certification for Fire Officer III, Office of the State Fire Marshal, and has completed FEMA ICS-100, 200, 300, 400, 700 as well as certified in ICS for Weapons of Mass Destruction and Hazardous Materials. Steve is a Board Member of the Will County Emergency Telephone System Board, a Board Member of the Illinois Chapter of Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO), and has published articles for the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials, International (APCO), Fire Chief Magazine, Homeland Protection Professional Magazine, has been quoted in Mobile Radio Technology Magazine, serves on the editorial board for Urgent Communications Magazine, and is a frequent contributor to the Private Radio Forum Yahoo discussion group.       Elected Chairman, 4/20/2017. This is not a "new job". I served as Vice Chairman for the Will County ETSB and was elected as Chairman in April 2017. As of 6/9/2021, I am no longer Chairman, but will remain on the ETSB until my retirement 9/24/2021.

      The Board of Fire Commissioners (BOFC) is appointed by the Fire District Trustees. The role of the Commission is to assist the Fire District for the Hiring, Promotion, Discipline, and Termination of sworn fire personnel. This is a voluntary position that routinely only needs to meet once a month unless there is a hiring sequence where we need to be engaged in testing, calculating results, interviewing, issuing employment letters, and swearing in of personnel.
