  My primary responsibility was for the audits of several hundred SMSFs, together with trust account audits, not-for-profit audits and retail outgoings audits. Leveraging my long-held interest in technology, I successfully guided the implementation of cloud-based SMSF auditing software into the Power Tynan practice. Coupled with this, I developed several supporting electronic workpapers and schedules to inject further efficiencies and quality into the audit processes. I have provided valued assistance to the software vendor with feedback and input into the ongoing enhancement of the software. At the same time, I continued my responsibility for undertaking business valuation engagements in the practice. These were undertaken for a variety of purposes (including Family Law disputes) and covered a broad range of industry sectors. Show less Around July 2014 I was offered the opportunity to commence an audit service line with its initial focus on SMSF audit engagements. During this developmental initiation period of the service I was most fortunate to have been mentored by Jason Croston, the Managing Director of SRJ Walker Wayland, Brisbane. This role gave me the oversight responsibility of the audit function for SMSF clients, while continuing with my business valuation engagement specialisation. My keen eye for detail and passion for quality work allowed me to excel in these areas and saw me achieve registration as an approved SMSF auditor with ASIC. Show less I first joined Power Tynan in 2008 to join the Superannuation Solutions team, which on a holistic basis was responsible not only for the annual compliance administration and compilation of financial statements for SMSFs, but also for the provision of timely and valued advice to clients on matters pertaining to their SMSFs. This was my first in-depth exposure to the myriad of rules surrounding the superannuation system in Australia. At this level I was responsible for the annual preparation of SMSF clients’ financial statements and annual returns, and liaising with fund auditors at the back end of that process.I was also afforded the opportunity to take responsibility for conducting client engagements involving both business valuations and litigation support. This allowed me to exercise right-brain thinking, to complement the often rigid and ordered nature of SMSF compliance work. Show less
