      Act as the primary safety contact concerning the health and safety of 350+ team members charged with protecting a 664 sq. mile, 264,000-citizen metro area ranking 3rd in the state based on population. Respond to incident scenes and ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local mandates regarding emergency scenes and response personnel. Identify and recommend tactical alternatives to unsafe operating conditions, working collaboratively with the Incident Commander to protect team members, citizens, and assets. Assist the Battalion Chief in preparing and administering annual budgets for Safety and Special Operations. Facilitate initial and ongoing professional development on safety, vehicle operation, emergency incident procedures, and more. Deliver Character Counts training to recruit classes. Initiated, and secured grants to fund, the Smoke Alarm Program, leading this prevention program and visiting 6,500 homes in the region, installing 700+ lifesaving smoke alarms, and facilitating safety education to 1,300 citizens.
