Wilderness leadership program -- student guide

The Wilderness Leadership Program comprises a robust opportunity to build applied leadership skills in the unique crucible that a wilderness environment creates. As one of two student guides hired, I led multiple 8-day trips with backpackers of various experience -- although the wilderness environment is emphasized, the trips focus not only on bolstering outdoor experience, but on building experiential leadership skills in an already physically and mentally rigorous environment.

I have developed a strong environmental regulatory background and ability to understand, interpret, and satisfy laws and regulations in performing environmental due diligence. With specific experience in fulfilling landowner liability protection via the preparation of Phase I & II Environmental Site Assessments, I apply this same requisite level of regulatory review in the development of a variety of environmental permitting processes, such as the HUD Parts 58 & 50 Environmental Assessments, NEPA/SEPA Environmental Policy Acts, JARPA, and Indoor Air Quality Assessments. Through the Phase II process specifically, I have a working knowledge of contamination processes and flags for detection, and combine these to create site-specific sampling plans to best characterize and confirm or deny the presence of contamination. When Phase II ESAs or other investigations reveal the presence of hazardous contaminants, I possess the ability to move these projects into active remediation. By expanding initial sampling plans based on understood migration pathways of the contaminants detected, a full site characterization can be developed past the initial investigation of concentration/deposition zones. With an up-to-date and consistently expanding knowledge base of time-tested and developing remediation technologies, I can best assess how contaminants on-site can be reduced to acceptable cleanup levels in the most cost-effective and efficient manner. By attaining and maintaining an OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Management (HAZWOPER) certification, I understand how to develop Site Health and Safety Plans ensuring regulatory compliance with safety standards for cleanup of hazardous contaminants and wastes.
