I worked to help create and sustain outcome-driven programs stay outcome-driven so the program would have lasting impact on the children we served. I performed process and outcome evaluation to ensure the See Well to Learn and Professional Education and Training programs were delivered efficiently and effectively. I established an evaluation framework that guided our work and communicated the results of our program to community and potential funders to ensure sustainability of programs. In any health and wellness program, d ata driven decision making is critical to keeping us on course toward our mission and maintaining the integrity of our work. Show less Prevent Blindness Northern California works to protect the vision of high-risk children and adults through screening, training and certifying vision screeners, advocacy and education. We’re best known for our See Well to Learn program, a mobile eye van that brings free high-tech vision screenings, exams and eye glasses to more than 7,000 low income preschoolers each year. I started with PBNC as a part-time program assistant in 2001. Over the years, my role expanded from recruiting volunteer groups and organizing screening events to teaching classes and giving presentations to overseeing operations and programs. Today, I’m in charge of direction, strategy and management of all our programs, which are at the heart of our mission and represent 80% of our $1.2M budget. I oversee our Vision Services Programs, including the See Well to Learn Bus Program, the Children’s Vision Screening Program which serves 20,000 children each year, and the Adults’ Vision Screening Program which serves 800 adults every year. Also under my direction is our Professional Education Program, which trains and certifies more than 500 nurses, medical assistants and Head Start Head Start personnel each year. In the office, I lead operations and a stellar team of managers and coordinators. I also oversee our Volunteer Program, training and managing 300 lay volunteers who provide vision screening at local preschools. As staff liaison to our Scientific Advisory Committee, I manage meetings and present updates as we guide our policy and programs.Representing PBNC at conferences, meetings and events is a highlight of my job; I’ve presented information about our partnerships with the San Francisco Department of Public Health and Head Start. In 2014 I went to Washington DC for Eyes on Capitol Hill with a parent whose child benefited from our programs. I also am involved in raising money for our work through grant writing and cultivating donors so that we can continue to expand our programs. Show less

      Co-lead

We recently received a grant from the National Center for Children's Vision and Eye Health to form a collective impact initiative called Better Vision Together - San Francisco (BVTSF). BVTSF will focus on the City and County of San Francisco, with the goal of developing efficient and effective systems around early childhood vision that can serve as a model for other California counties. Stakeholders from UCSF Department of Ophthalmology, SF DPH Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health, Head Start, Support for Families, SFUSD Early Education Department and parent advocates will work on a holistic approach, focusing on strengthening systems to identify and correct vision problems as part of a broader view addressing “health barriers to learning,” to ensure SF children age 0-5 are ready to learn and grow!
