Kent State Parking Services strives to maintain accessible parking for the entire university community with as much flexibility as possible. In addition, it strives to provide close proximity to parking and transit facilities and services so that students and faculty can engage in classroom, laboratory and library activities with ease and timeliness. In addition to overseeing the operation of over 12,000 parking spaces on the Kent Campus, Parking Services provides a broad range of other related services including online parking permit sales, online citation payments and appeals, special event parking, visitor parking, parking lot enforcement, a motorist assistance program, parking lot maintenance and parking lot snow removal, and 24-hour security at the Dix Stadium. As a seasonal student Kent State University Parking Enforcer, I managed to enforce (ticket cars parked in violation) various parking lots on the Kent State campus. I provided motorist assistance; jump starts, gas transports and tire inflation’s. Occasionally I worked in the pay lot as a pay booth cashier and lot attendant. Every Thursday, I helped collect and count meter money from parking meters around campus. I conducted traffic detail for special event parking on the weekends. Show less Kent State's Security Aide program is nationally recognized for excellence. Student security aides are in direct contact with University Police Services via two-way radios. Every residence hall complex is patrolled from 8 p.m. until 4 a.m. every day. The security aides receive 40 hours of intense training prior to assuming their duties. They learn CPR, first aid, fire prevention and emergency procedures. At Kent State Office of Safety and Security, I worked as a security dispatcher, security aide and area supervisor As a dispatcher I created and maintained records and files of residents living in the residence halls. I handled telephonic complaints coming from residents and the general public by dispatching security aides, Emergency Medical Services and Kent State Police to contacts seeking help using a God mic (2-way radio) and Belmont County Ohio Standard Codes and Signals. As an area supervisor, I managed security personnel in my area, created weekly schedules and informational reports regarding operations during the week. I reviewed and corrected incident reports submitted by security aides (marijuana, alcohol, disorderly conduct etc.). As a security aide and area supervisor, I patrolled residence halls housing more than 6000 students. I served as a visible crime deterrent; I enforced university regulations as well as enforced the Ohio State Laws in assistance to Kent State Police and the Kent State Fire Marshall. I Investigated resident complaints and monitored resident activities. I communicated with Security Dispatcher and Kent State Police via 2way radios using Belmont County Ohio Standard Codes and Signals. I wrote incident and police reports describing in detail the violation(s) that occurred accurately including those involved and their specific involvement and attended disciplinary meetings (Judicial Affairs/Court Hearings) as follow ups to the reports I have submitted. PARTA has countywide contracts to serve the Area Agency on Aging, Board of MRDD, PASS, Coleman Professional Services and the Portage County Department of Jobs & Family Services (formerly DHS).As a hostler, I managed to help fuel and service (clean, check/add fluids and park) approximately 70 buses as well as company vehicles everyday Monday-Friday. PARTA’s hostlers consisted of four individuals including myself. My very first task when I come in to work was to line up the buses at the fuel pumps. After lining the buses up at the fuel pumps, I began fueling them and driving them into the wash bay. In the wash bay we checked fluids (oil, transmission, washer fluid and coolant) and added fluids as needed. We then proceeded to clean the interior and exterior of the buses and parked them in their designated parking spots. Company vehicles were serviced prior to the end of our work shift and sometimes sooner. Show less
