  In addition to producing civil & structural designs, I was responsible for the internal project management of design schemes from conception to delivery.This involved controlling financial budgets, the management of the design team and other resources in addition to meeting with Clients, Contractors and other external professionals to agree the scope of design services required, upon which fee proposals and any variations were agreed.Whilst in this role I was responsible for managing the Brighouse office ‘Small Works' team, which dealt with structural designs for domestic properties and structural surveys/reports on buildings.Experience in the Rail sector included working on several schemes within the Wales region of Network Rail, gaining experience in performing the role of 'Contractors Responsible Engineer' (CRE).Other duties included:- Structural Inspection Reports / Condition Surveys- Structural Specifications / Remedial Specifications- Schedule of Works- Tender and Contract Documentation for Minor Works Schemes- Contract Administration (ICE Conditions of Contract and ICC Conditions of Contract)- Phase 1 Desk Study Reports- Drainage Strategy Reports- Design of Roads & Sewers (S38, S278, S104)- Coordinating site investigations (Geo-Technical, Geo-Environmental, Drainage, Topographical) - Principal Designer (CDM 2015) Weniger anzeigen Working alongside senior colleagues this role involved undertaking design calculations using steel, timber, concrete and masonry codes of practice, to produce the designs for a wide variety of civil and structural engineering projects. Most notably in the Residential, Domestic, Rail, Leisure, Industrial and Commercial sectors.In this role I was often the lead project engineer, leading the design team and being the first point of contact for many Clients. This required the preparation, issuing, negotiation and agreement of fee proposals.I was responsible for instructing the drafting Technicians to produce engineering drawings based on my designs and to provide guidance to Assistant & Graduate Engineers whilst checking the quality and accuracy of their work. Significant experience was gained providing the structural design for various new-build residential houses, extensions, loft conversions and internal alterations to domestic properties in accordance with ‘The Buildings Regulations’. Typically, New-build residential designs were also in compliance with ‘NHBC Standards’ and often involved the design of integral retaining walls.Experience also gained overseeing the production of the civil designs for roads and sewers for S38, S278, & S104 approvals on developments often in the Residential sector but also on industrial, commercial and leisure developments.Experience in the Rail sector included the preparation of structural reports and the design delivery of several remedial and refurbishment schemes to historic passenger footbridges and platform canopies. Weniger anzeigen In addition to the production of engineering and architectural drawings, I was also responsible for assisting the Project Engineers with designs often anticipating potential design and construction issues before contributing to the engineering solutions, whilst mentoring and checking the work of junior Technicians for quality and accuracy.My role also included the production of repair specifications for remedial work schemes on buildings with structural damage including subsidence and overseeing the construction works being carried out in accordance with the ‘ICE Minor Works Contract’. This also involved the production of schedule of works, tender and contract documentation for these schemes. Other areas of responsibility included the production of basic structural design calculations for domestic extensions/alterations and new-build residential properties using steel, timber, concrete and masonry design codes of practice. Weniger anzeigen Working under the instruction of the lead Project and Design Engineers, I was responsible for interpreting their designs to produce the technical drawings for a wide variety of Civil and Structural Engineering projects using AutoCAD software.This was mainly for load bearing masonry, steel and reinforced concrete structures – most notably for foundations, retaining walls and steel framed buildings. Projects ranged in size and complexity from small domestic extensions / loft conversions or new-build residential properties to large industrial and commercial steel framed buildings.I was also responsible for the preparation of the architectural designs and drawings for some residential, commercial and industrial buildings to comply with Planning and Building Regulations.   Development Manager

  Working for one of the UK’s largest construction companies (Kier Group) within their house building division as a Development Manager overseeing the design of all engineering functions for residential housing sites in the Northern region (North West, North East & Yorkshire), including responsibility for procuring, instructing and checking the architectural and civil/structural engineering designs / reports of all external design consultants & surveyors to ensure they satisfy the technical requirements of our development schemes.In this role I had responsibility for preparing, submitting and administering development proposals for Planning, Building Regulations, Water Authority (S104) and Highways technical approval (S38 & S278) ensuring schemes were ready for construction to start, and to provide the lead technical support to the site teams on live developments once construction had commenced. This role also carried responsibility of managing the adoption process for infrastructure offered to the relevant authorities, undertaking engineering appraisals of prospective development land prior to acquisition based on detailed reviews of all available information including Geotechnical, Geo-environmental, Ecological and Transport reports.Close liaison with the Commercial & Construction teams was regularly undertaken to ensure the business was receiving value for money from sub-contractors. Regular re-evaluation of schemes together with value engineering of designs were undertaken to meet the demands of unexpected site conditions and the changing strategic business needs of the company which required me to continuously make appropriate technical decisions using my engineering judgement.
