Secondary focus of research was the evaluation of the efficacy of hyperbranched polymer-enhanced biocidal and/or chemically resistant coatings.

  Served as a member of a consulting group whose primary client is the U.S. EPA. Primary focus was cost estimation for preparation of budgets / proposals. Other engineering tasks included evaluation of remedial technologies and alternatives, hydrogeologic / geochemical modeling of contaminant fate and transport, design and implementation of field pilot-testing of remedial technologies, treatment system design and optimization (e.g., in situ chemical oxidation, soil vapor extraction), and resident engineering oversight.   Co-taught the undergraduate course, Energy, Sustainability and the Environment, with Dr. D. Yogi Goswami, delivering half the lectures for the course. Assisted with other courses at the undergraduate and graduate level, including Solar Energy: Fundamentals and Applications, Transport Phenomena, and Material and Energy Balances, and Advanced Thermodynamics. Duties included grading assignments, one-on-one tutoring, and presenting lectures.

  Directing research partially funded by U.S. EPA concerning novel nanostructured photocatalysts for air purification applications. Work involves inorganic synthesis / characterization of nanostructures, as well as construction and testing of experimental air purification apparatus. Contributed to a variety of projects / proposals, with topics including but not limited to solar power (thermal and PV), thermal energy storage, phase change materials, and biomass gasification. Doctoral dissertation addresses high temperature thermal energy storage media for utility-scale solar power, specifically using advanced spectroscopic and calorimetric methods to develop and characterize novel energy storage materials.
