      Previously employed as a member of student staff, a decision was made to create a new job role for me within the union core staff. The role of EPOS systems administrator was deemed as necessary, due to the impact of my work during my time as a student supervisor in Essentials. My new role within the union involves administration of the EPOS hardware & software devices, across all commercial services departments. This includes a retail outlet, union bar and catering outlets. Duties and Responsibilities:- Administrate the maintenance and development of the EPOS system, to ensure that it is optimised to its full potential. Completing small projects where necessary to implement additional functionality.- To provide first line assistance to users when problems with EPOS and associated systems or hardware occur. - Providing initial troubleshooting for both hardware and software issues and acting as a conduit for two way communication between the users and the service desk. - Provide training and support to till users on departmental systems operation, policy and procedure.- To ensure accuracy within the central cost / price database for all outlets.- To co-ordinate the termly stock take at all outlets. Analyse the results, investigate any discrepancies and provide a report on your findings.- To carry out random stock takes on specific items, investigate discrepancies and report on your findings.- To provide management reports to the relevant trading managers as and when requested.- To ensure housekeeping of the systems is routinely carried out.- Data input onto the system- To work out retail prices from the cost price, ensuring that the correct profit margin is attained. - Implement additional functionality, within the fidelity EPOS system used across union commercial services. Show less Whilst my main job at the Students Union is based within the retail outlet as a retail Supervisor, my role at Essentials has nearly always utilised my technical know how.When i joined Essentials, this technical involvement was only minimal involving duties such as;- Minor system breakdowns and fault resolution- Technical Advice to staff within my Department- Sourcing replacement equipment when required- EPOS system support, often much quicker than the paid for service- Creation of a order tracking system within Microsoft Access- Creation of a business document template pack, utilising Microsoft Mail Merge- Upgrade / Creation of Microsoft Excel Documents utilising complex FormulasAs I moved into more of senior position within Essentials my technical knowhow was utilised even more. Some of my more notable technical tasks within essentials are outlined below.1 - Entire rebuild of shop computer networkDue to an unrecoverable breakdown, the shops computer network needed to be redeployed. The network provided services for Office PC's, EPOS System, CCTV other networked devices. This provided me with the opportunity to redeploy the redundant server and offer a much more secure Domain controlled network with Windows Server 2012 2 - Big Data Manipulation3 - Utilising considerably more of the EPOS system in order to improve retail operations4 - Improving deployment of the CMS to offer additional functionality Show less This was my starting role within the Students Union and it involved all the typical duties of a Retail Sales Assistant. Whilst working within a retail environment was not an entirely new field to me, the substantial increase in work-pace and customer demand proved itself to be an enjoyable challenge.
