  Since 2005, I have operated as a Mechanical Design Engineer. I specialise in Additive Manufacturing (AM), using CAD to create products from concept to delivery. I have completed assignments for companies such as Rolls-Royce Defence, GKN and Airbus.I am a Chartered Engineer with a First Class Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering. Having previously contracted with companies such as Rolls-Royce, GKN and Mowlem, I have acquired transferrable skills relevant to the Aerospace, Defence, Marine, Energy and Petrochemical sectors as well as the Consumer Product market.Morgan Design Ltd offers a range of mechanical design and analysis services to businesses.   J+S Ltd, now SEA, provides solutions for design, engineering and operational support of subsea equipment. I reported to the Engineering Director with 8 staff. I was responsible for all Mechanical and Design work on the Barnstaple site, whilst also serving as Design Review Independent Chairman.I led the implementation of a PDM system to streamline the design/engineering process. In addition, I designed equipment to ensure it survived underwater shock attacks.Key contributions:■ Delivered new connector for tidal turbine cables allowing them to be rapidly connected and disconnected, being responsible for all steps from design through to onsite connection.■ Designed the means by which cables could be put through a pressurised submarine hull to attach to internal bulkheads.   Additive Manufacturing Research Engineer (contract)

  Airbus in Filton designs, tests and manufactures wings for all Airbus commercial aircraft. I was engaged to advance the use of AM (Additive Manufacturing) techniques in the Airbus Group. I produced estimates and quotes for AM components, and provided design advice and consultancy to customers, both internal and external to Airbus. In addition, I designed components for AM, which involved moving from concept generation through structural optimisation to detail drawings. I produced technical reports and customer status update reports.I managed projects for AM manufacture from concept design to delivery, including subcontract operations, and inspected AM components, both 3D scan and traditional.Key contributions:■ Led improvements to AM quality process ensuring traceability from requirements to finished part.■ Produced and delivered training material for AM.■ Created new AM-manufactured repair patch from scanned 3D Microset-created model.■ Delivered bulkhead seal components to tight timescales, taking responsibility for the complete process from seal redesign for AM, through build trial, to manufacture.■ Provided design advice for and successfully managed project to deliver demonstrator of Lightweight Advanced Robotic Arm for Mars Rover, leading process from design and AM manufacture to final machining and delivery.   Additive Manufacturing Design Engineer (contract)

  Rolls-Royce Defence develops gas turbine engine technology including fan blades and cases. I was engaged to work on wall cooling designs for a gas turbine combustion chamber and combustor, and was subsequently asked to design the test rigs and fixtures. I have also provided AM (Additive Manufacturing) consultancy to ensure components are designed for the process by optimising the materials used, reducing build failures and minimising post-process operations.Key contributions:■ Delivered gas turbine combustion chamber design, which involved creating CAD models for AM, performing stress calculations, iterating through several design studies and leading build trial program.■ Successfully applied wall-cooling concept to complex gas turbine combustor which was intended for production using AM, leading mechanical design, testing and trial manufacturing programme.
