      2008 - 2012
Doctor of engineering (engd) engineering pass

Activities and Societies: Cycing and Sailing I completed an EngD (a phD along with several MBA modules) at Swansea University sponsored by Tata steel. The main focus of my work was around inhibiting corrosion of polymer coated hot dip coated steel using electrochemical analysis. This taught me data analysis and writing skills along with applied laboratory skills. 2004 - 2007
Bachelor of engineering (beng) materials engineering

Activities and Societies: Sailing, Cycling I completed a materials engineering degree at Swansea University (BEng Hons)

    • Swansea university

      2007 - 2008
Master of engineering (meng) aerospace, aeronautical and astronautical engineering

Activities and Societies: Sailing, Cycling I completed an MRes (Master or Research) comparing rainey nickel and platinum catalysts in alkali hydrogen fuel cells for the European space agency. I also looked at carbon nano tube reinforced composites, and the effect of adding carbon nano tubes to polymer and ceramic matrices to improve the overall mechanical properties of the composite and the effect of water absorption of the polymer.

      Aug 2007 - Aug 2008
      Mres

Completed an occupation MRes working for the European Space Agency R&D carrying out on life cycle analysis comparing different electrode materials for hydrogen fuel cells with respect to product performance, cost, and environmental impact.

    • Tata steel

      Aug 2008 - Aug 2012
      Research engineer

I have completed a Engineering Doctorate (EngD) working with Tata steel and Swansea University studying the corrosion behaviour of hot dip Mg-Al-Zn coated steel, various PVD coatings, and magnesium alloys. I also supported the development of these materials for commercialisation and manufacture.

      Aug 2012 - Sept 2014
Supplier technical support and new product introduction engineer

Responsible for the technical interface between engineering /supplier interface for cast, post cast and coated Nickel super alloy parts in gas turbines (Blades, Vanes and Heat Shields). The role is a combination of manufacturing support, new product introduction and quality engineering, design for manufacture and running cost reduction projects. My main responsibilities are :Supporting the development and sign off of products with suppliers (New Product Introduction)Problem solving and root cause analysis using 8D, 5Y2H etcAssisting procurement and logistics with deliveriesResolving quality issues within the supply chainSupporting commodity managers with supplier selection Supplier Audits (ISO 9001 Lloyds certified lead auditor) and process audits (casting, machining, coating and NDT techniques such as x ray and FPI)Supporting design teams to understand design to manufacture issues Identifying and resolving issues between design teams and suppliersSupporting PFMEA and DFMEA for design to manufacture related issuesThis job involved significant amounts of international travel and I have experience working with suppliers across Europe, Asia and America. • Jlr

      Sept 2014 - now

I manage a team of engineers, who strive to ensure that the design quality and robustness, of all electrical systems and components used on Jaguar Land Rover vehicles, meet our customer expectations. The role of my department is to analyse engineering design processes, and system designs, to identify where robustness can be improved. My team can also support with the application of the identified improvements if required. We also support the quality teams to ensure that issues are resolved permanently at the correct system level (eg logical design, architecture, sub system or component). The scope of my team covers all functions owned by electrical engineering within JLR (Software, Modules, Networks and Electrical components). Examples of functions my team support are listed below :ADAS SystemsElectric Propulsion systems (Batteries, EDU, Controller, Charging systems)ECUsInfotainment SystemsSecurity SystemsWiring HarnessesTelematics and over the air software updating systems Control Systems Show less I am responsible for the implementation of failure mode avoidance within the JLR engine design team (approximately 200 engineers). This involves developing, coaching and assessing the use of tools and processes for quality and system engineering. Typical tools used are : Design tools such as Six Theta, Six Sigma for Design and Design Complexity statistical analysis and FMA tools such as FMEAs, P diagrams and Function Trees. I am responsible for reviewing and signing off engineering standards and supporting the transfer of information from design to manufacturing teams. (DFMEA to PFMEA) I also participate in the teching of quality and failure mode avoidance tools by lecturing and running training courses at Warwick University Show less
