      I have done my PhD under the supervision of Doctor Ana Paula Pêgo and co-supervision of Doctor João Relvas. My work aimed at unraveling the influence of mechanotransduction in the central nervous system, specifically in pahological conditions such as multiple sclerosis, envisaging its modulation towards the design of new regenerative therapies. I have explored the inhibitory influence of astrocytes and extracellular matrix on myelination, and further explored related signalling pathways.During this period I have: - Launched new in vitro culture systems, new CNS primary cell isolation methods in the lab;- Analyzed data and designed experiments;- Communication: 7 oral presentations in international conferences (5 by invitation), write 3 + 5 scientific articles for peer reviewed journals and a patent (WO 2014116132 A1);- Tutor 3 students in lab animal sciences practices;- Co-supervised a master student from Twente University. Show less I have been involved in several financed R&D projects aiming at developing therapeutic strategies for central nervous system regeneration. Particularly the development of 3D biocompatible polymeric scaffolds for spinal cord injury regeneration. I have dedicated a considerable part of my time planning and executing in vitro cytotoxicity tests according to the ISO standard 10993-5:1992. I further acquired knowledge in cell isolation and culture, in fluorescent and confocal microscopy and in lab animal handling (FELASA C). As a research assistant I also had the opportunity to work for 3 months in Aberdeen, Scotland, at the Aberdeen University Life Sciences Facilities. Show less

This group aims at unerstanding which medical conditions are most amenable to beinf treated with Bioelectronic Medicine, as well as, fundamentals, current direction, and key players in Bioletronic medicine and to coalesce initial thoughts on delineating a development roadmap for BioelectronicMedicine.
