      This team handled homeowners water damage. The team started as a pilot in 2019 testing if there were certain water losses that are normally handled by field adjusters that could be handled at the desk for cost savings. The pilot was successful and resulted in a team handling only water damage. The damages sustained required a water mitigation company. Water mitigation services were offered to the customer, but occasionally the customer would hire an outside company. Working with an outside company requires adjusters to review and negotiate pricing to abide by industry standards. We also were required to reverse engineer mitigation estimates to complete an accurate rebuild estimate. Show less This team handles different types of losses, but focuses mainly on renters water and fire catastrophic losses. The losses that the team handle would be considered a large loss if for a homeowners policy. Typically each claim requires a significant amount of vendor management. On average, we utilized three separate third party companies to assist in our claim handling. The majority of these claims also leave our customer without a home, so we monitor and actively manage temporary housing arrangements for them. These claims are long tailed lasting 6-9 months on average which require adjusters to create a positive, lasting relationship with their customers. Show less As a property desk adjuster at American Family, I assist our customers in the difficult times in which the unthinkables happen. I communicate with our customers over telephone, email, or both in order to walk them through the claims process to ensure our customers they will be taken care of, from filing the claim to settling the claim. American Family thrives on being customer-driven and I take that seriously in my daily work. I take to heart the thought that for most of our customers their experience working through a claims is likely one of their only experices with their insurance company. I strive to make all customers feel at ease with the claims process and satisfied with their settlement. Show less As a Property Claims Desk Adjuster Intern, I worked directly with customers on a daily basis. Through careful communication via telephone and other electronic communication, I was able to effectively assist customers with their claims. This included contacting the customer to discuss what happened in the event and informing them of the coverage that was available to them through their American Family Insurance policy. I also wrote estimates for the customers' claims and finally paid the customers according to the results of the claim investigation. I dealt solely with Property claims during my time at American Family Insurance. Show less
