  6 week summer placement in Northern Ireland mainly involved field mapping the bedrock geology, float and mineral occurrences. The main aim was to sample a representative number of the different rock types and any mineralised samples within an area of 30km². Data collected was used and reported in my BSc dissertation.

My responsibilities included: producing core logs, cross sections, mine abandonment plans and monitoring health & safety for an explosive site. Reporting to the MD, the findings of the 80 rotary percussive boreholes will determine the potential future exploration strategy and the site development suitability.

  Work experience

  Recruited by Arup to compile a desk top study after impressing the client with my work at Glen Turner whiskey plant. The investigation identified the likelihood of encountering oil shale workings during future site expansions and the findings of the study were used to implement and design an intrusive ground investigation program.

  Data was collected during a four week internship at the Sentinel and Enterprise deposits which are part of First Quantums Trident project in North-Western Zambia. The data was used to compile a technical thesis and submitted in September 2015.Project title: "A Mineralogical Description of the Hydrothermal Nickel Resource within the Sentinel and Enterprise Deposits of First Quantum's Trident Project, Northwest Zambia".The work completed will be used by FQM to delineate and understand the quality of the Enterprise and Sentinel Ni orebodies, as well as predicting the processing implications of the resource.   Graduate scheme/process plant shift operator

  Operated, maintained and optimised mineralogical separation techniques at Hemerdon (W-Sn) process plant. Practical experience gained in comminution, fines gravity separation, dense media separation, tails thickening, flotation, magnetic separation and the plant control room during very early phases of plant commissioning. During twelve hour shifts I regularly work with shift fitters, plant operators and metallurgists, providing assistance where required. In-house training included fire safety, IOSH and environmental awareness. I also studied and was awarded a level 3 certification QCF qualification with the Institute of Quarrying: Health, Safety and Environmental Awareness in the Extractives and Related Industries.
