  Area Rangeland Management Specialist Duties, Accomplishments and Related Skills:In support of the NRCS mission while applying the provisions of each years' Farm Bill, I served as the Area Rangeland Management Specialist i n Montana's Great Falls Area Oftice. I n this position, I provided leadership, guidance, and technical assistance to field offices in 13 counties throughout central and north central Montana, 3 Native American Tribes, Great Falls NRCS Staff i.e. Wildlife Biologist, Soils Scientist, 2 Resource Conservationist, Water Resource Specialist, Engineer, and the Assistant State Resource Conservationist, with all things related to range resources and management planning. I provided technical assistance to land users to perform resource inventories, develop resource treatment alternatives, develop conservation plans, ranch plans, develop cost•share contracts, prepare conservation treatment practice designs and specifications, provide guidance for the application or resource treatment practices, and administered the GRP program I00% for the Great Falls Area Office, and have had training and or some administrative contact and responsibility for EQI P, WHIP, WRP, CRP, CSP, CStP, and FRPP while performing QAR tasks and Technical Assistance, and follow up guidance. I assisted land users in developing and maintaining range land practices while utilizing economic principles or implementing conservation practices, while taking into consideration brush control and management concepts of soil and plant relationships to address forage production concerns for practices such as weed and brush management, while evaluating the potential of grazing lands, managing and or improvement of wildlife habitat for sage grouse through the use of livestock and wildlife grazing management schemes, providing monitoring and evaluating forage usage, balanced with livestock nutritional and forage requirements.   Rangeland Management Specialist

  It is my responsibility as an MLRA Office Rangeland Management Specialist to provide overall technical guidance and coordination of the development, updating, and quality control of Ecological Site Descriptions related to soil-plant data, and state and transition models. To accomplish this, vegetation type concepts must be established using field-collected data, peer-reviewed literature, and communication with other ecological science professionals, while assisting soil scientists to correlate vegetation communities. In order to successfully perform tasks I am often called upon to, and must from time to time collaborate with the MLRA-Soil Survey office leaders within the assigned area to develop ecological site/soil component keys for ongoing projects and previously published soil surveys with the area, while assisting soil scientists with related soil survey tasks, soil survey manuscript development, database management, and development of technical guidance documents. Have identified analytical tools and methods to correlate and coordinate ecological site information with soils information. Therefore I collect, enter, and edit ecological site data using established data collection procedures. This experience includes taking the lead as a Tech Team member in working with other MLRA/MSSL offices to develop draft ideas and policies, and guidance for State and Transition Models of all ESDs for MLRA 35.
