    • Weiss Ace Hardware

      Sept 2011 - May 2015
      Sales Associate

My first job that I held was at Weiss Ace Hardware, where I began working as a cashier / stocker. Eventually, my role expanded to include working on the floor as a sales associate. While working at Weiss Ace Hardware I learned a lot about customer service and how to help customers with their projects and needs. During this time I also learned about inventory management in retail by maintaining inventory for various departments throughout the store with use of the Point-of-Sale (P.O.S.) application. • EFCO Corp.

      May 2015 - Aug 2015
      R&D Engineering Intern

I completed my first professional engineering experience working within the R&D department at EFCO Corporation as a summer intern. I performed static deflection tests with hydraulic pumps and dial indicators on supports for the Powershield scaffolding system developed by EFCO. I used Excel to both analyze and visualize the data from the tests. Ultimately, I wrote test reports interpreting the test data that were retained by the company for validation of products. Using AISC standards, I analyzed the strength of Plate Girder concrete forms based on section and material properties leading to load ratings. These calculations were included in EFCO's engineering manual, which is sent to engineers working for the corporation around the globe. In addition, I collaborated with other interns to help build a Powershield display for the corporation's sales engineers at the Des Moines global headquarters location. Show less

    • Iowa State University Department of Mechanical Engineering

      Sept 2015 - Dec 2015
Undergraduate Research Assistant - Dr. Chao Hu

I worked as an undergraduate research assistant in Dr. Chao Hu's System Reliability and Safety Laboratory. My research within the research group focused on reliability analysis of lithium-ion batteries. Recently developed statistical regression methods were applied to training data for lithium-ion batteries. A model was trained using excel data written in Matlab code that applied LASSO Regression to estimate the remaining useful life for a sample lithium-ion battery. The research ultimately led to the submission of a conference paper that was accepted and published. Show less

    • Orbital Technologies Corporation (ORBITEC)

      Jan 2016 - Aug 2016
      Mechanical (Test) Engineering Co-op

I worked with full-time test engineers as a Mechanical (Test) Engineering Co-op for ORBITEC. My main project at ORBITEC was to build a test stand for testing valves and quick-disconnects as part of the ECLSS package the company developed for the Boeing CST-100. Related to the same project, I also designed test fixtures for performance, random vibration, leakage and pressure tests according to SMC-S aerospace testing standards. My expertise with SolidWorks CAD software was put to use in creating models, drawings, and bill-of-materials for various test fixtures. I also wrote a python script to filter test data for an electronically controlled vacuum isolation valve and prepared a test report analyzing hysteresis data with measurement tools in GIMP 2. Overall, while working at ORBITEC I was able to build upon my CAD modeling skills, while also learning new skills such as object-oriented programming, manufacturing, wiring, soldering, and plumbing.
