  The Ohio Opioid Project (OHOP) is an NIH-funded study of opioid use and service gaps in rural southeastern Ohio, the epicenter of the prescription opioid epidemic in the US. In my role as a graduate research assistant, I assisted in the sub-study assessing the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on substance use and related services. Using the findings from qualitative interviews, I collaborated with my team of three colleagues to develop and present findings to the Scioto Emergency Management. Our objective was to provide information that could inform the development of an emergency plan specifically designed to prepare local communities, including treatment agencies, health departments, and other relevant stakeholders. This will equip communities to effectively respond to and manage potential future emergencies that may disrupt services for people who use drugs (PWUD). Show less
