1960 - 1964Bachelor of science (bs) with honors bacteriology, virology, chemistry 3.24/4.00Activities and Societies: Tau Kappa Epsilon, Phi Kappa Phi, Sigma Nu, U of Maine Band, ROTC Judo Team, Freshman Football Team, University Student Council representing TKE. Other professional organizations as both undergrad and graduate student at the U of Maine. My senior research was focused on the use of bacteriophage to lyse E.coli bacteria commonly found in the gut of most mammals. The broader application in municipal waste treatment systems were considered. A scale up to pilot plant size was proposed to the waste treatment plant at the University. A large treatment tank was given to determine what conditions (temperature, dilutions, and pH) would support rapid destruction (lysis) of E. coli.
