  Pass flight simulator pilot

  The Peer Assisted Study Scheme is an internationally recognised programme which helps first year university students transition from secondary to higher education by using second and third-year students to facilitate learning in their chosen course. At The University of Manchester this is conducted through small group learning sessions with two to three PASS leaders focusing on course content as well as Flight Simulator sessions led by pilots which help first year students to grasp aircraft performance and control.Being a Flight Simulator Pilot, I have spent my time using the Merlin MP521 simulators to give most students an experience of flight for the first time ever. I have helped them to explore the effects of different aircraft systems such as flaps, landing gear and spoilers as well as a variety of different phenomena such as turbulence and stall facilitating many a discussion between peers and creating countless 'light-bulb' moments! 💡Participating in weekly debriefs with fellow PASS leaders I have helped to improve and develop the programme for future years! Throughout this experience, I have developed my communication skills. Growing an especially open mind to students from a variety of different backgrounds and accommodating a variety of different learning styles. I have learnt the importance of not just being a facilitator but a friendly face for younger students to lean on and be able to ask any questions about the course or university life. Show less
