      Summer Intern

During my final summer break in high school, I was offered the opportunity to watch how a local legal practice in Oman operated. At the firm, I was assigned to various lawyers and observed them working in their respective areas of expertise. I was also assigned limited duties such as arranging case files, since I had no authority to engage actively in cases. However it was a great way for me to read a few cases from various areas of law- I found them intriguing!Arranging case files also helped me improve one skill in particular: critical thinking. As I looked through various instances and legal materials, I tried to figure out what kinds of laws were at play and how it would differ from other legal systems throughout the world. It also provided me with numerous opportunities to enhance my skim reading abilities and recall crucial information. Show less

      Nov 2023 - Dec 2023
      Student Consultant

I was accepted onto the University of Leeds Virtual Industry Programme, which was offered in collaboration with Practera. Over the course of 3 weeks, our student consultant team worked on building a growth strategy for LightMirror, a Lithuanian startup company. LightMirror's goal is to reduce the use of artificial lighting and heat in hospitals and care homes. The programme was a fantastic experience that challenged me and allowed me to enhance variety of skills. I learned how to maintain solid clent connections by swiftly replying to emails, carefully listening to their needs, and acting on their feedback. My role was Team Leader, and few of my responsibilities included meeting deadlines, communicating with our client as needed, and reviewing the team's overall progress, ensuring that everyone was working towards a shared goal. This virtual internship also encouraged me to improve my technological skills, which are extremely valuable in todays world. Show less

      Feb 2024 - May 2024

As a current Law UG in Year 1 and a former International Foundation Year (IFY) student, I was able to facilitate a structured Q&A session with the current cohort of IFY students in Arts and Social Sciences. Students were able to ask me questions about their final module project as well as how the transitions from IFY to UG were.I was able to answer their questions by drawing honestly on my personal student journey and experiences here at Leeds! I had also provided some discipline specific guidance and tips, which was really insightful for many students. Show less I was working as a student fundraiser at the University of Leeds for a month. It was a telephone campaign, and my responsibilities involved contacting university alumni and soliciting monetary donations to sponsor scholarship programmes for prospective students. As a student fundraiser, I mainly relied on three skills: developing rapport, negotiating, and communicating effectively. When calling alumni, student fundraisers must create immediate rapport by striking a good tone for the conversation and ensuring the caller is accessible at the time and willing to talk. Once that is complete, we then requested a donation amount. If the alumnus is hesitant to pay the requested amount, we, as student fundraisers, negotiated an amount until both parties are pleased. Each and every donation counts, and so we appreciated whatever they have to offer. As all of this information is exchanged over the phone, precise and concise communication, as well as attentive listening, was essential. Show less
