      At sea since 1973 after 2 years studying at Wellington Teachers College and Victoria UniFishing boats in 70's. Gained valuable experience in seamanship and navigation in these jobs which included a period as Mate on the 40 metre mother ship Susan Wright operating in Gulf of Carpenteria and Barrier reef in 1978. I was briefly Mate on the biggest NZ trawler (at this time -1979)In late 1979 joined Fisheries Resarch Vessel Soela, homeport Fremantle.Circumnavigated Australia over next year doing fisheries research on charter to CSIRO.1981-1985 gained more seatime for 2nd Mate coc on Australian Cargo ships such as Lake Eyre.Wiltshire and others.Passed 2nd Mate in Dec 1986 and joined Tanker Amanda Miller as 3rd Mate immediately after gaining ticket.Next few years worked on a variety of vessels as 2nd/3rd Mate.These included Mobil Australis, Camira, Conus Canopus, Lindsay Clark, Southern Surveyor, Ice Bird, Challenger B,. Forum Papua New Guinea , Iron Baron and ANL vessels Bass Trader, Australian Venture, Tranztas Trader, Australian Trader, Australian Advance .These vessel types included oil tankers, International container ships, bulk carriers, ro/ro, Antarctic supply and others.Joined Interisland ferries in November 1994 as 3rd Officer and worked there until Jan 2013. Mate from 1995 and Master from mid 2003.Took year off to work in Australia mid 2010-2011 then returned as Master July 2011 to work on Monte Stello then lengthened AratereResigned again in January 2013 for personal reasons.       I have opened Bed and Breakfast in building I own in historic old town of Patea on the West Coast of North Island of New Zealand.Patea was a port from Maori times and used immediately when European settlement began.Commercial activity largely ceased around 1961 but the River is used by recreational craft and some commercial vesels heading out Fishing or Diving in the Tasman Sea.Patea has an 18 hole Golf Course with sea views from every hole.Inland Lake Rotorangi offers tranquil fishing , camping and bush walks.To the North approx 40 minutes away is the majestic volcanic cone Mount Taranaki ringed by the Mount Egmont Natonal Park.Patea has surf breaks and these breaks are found all the way around the Coast on Highway 45 the Surf Highway.Post House is situated in the Old Post Office a grand old 1923 Building.Most of the 5 rooms are on the upper floor which was originally the Post Masters residence and have sea and country views, even a glimpse of Mt Ruapehu on clear days.The facilities are shared at this stage but with two bathrooms and a Fully equipped Kitchen.Continental Breakfast Included in tariff.See the property on Booking.com or Airbnb Web posthousepatea.comThis business is now closed!!
