      The Urban Scholars program was started by the City of Minneapolis in 2012 to create a pipeline for people of color to enter City governance. I was chosen from over 600 applicants into a 98 person cohort. As an Urban Scholar I participated in many trainings on accessibility, cultural competency, networking, and community outreach. In my department I worked closely with Minneapolis residents in both cultural communities and neighborhoods. Our goal is to empower residents to take on leadership roles in their neighborhood association boards and affect positive change in their community and the City. Show less

      Political organizer for the Latinx Community of Minneapolis to elect Raymond Dehn as Mayor of Minneapolis.-Attended and led meetings with important people in the community to discuss policy plans and spread support.-Door knocked and made phone calls to community members to speak about issues important to them. Did so in English and Spanish-Translated the campaign's website into Spanish for better access to information for the community.-Translated campaign social media on a rolling basis. Results:-Unfortunately, Raymond Dehn did not win the election, but came second to Jacob Frey in rank choice voting. -Minneapolis Wards 9 and 8 at ~30% and ~20% Latinx makeup, respectively, voted for Raymond Dehn as their number one choice for mayor.
