      History HISTORY 2:1

My degree covered a wide range of historical periods from the Medieval period to 1990's pop culture in Britain. As part of my degree I also spent time on a work placement researching workhouses in both East and West Sussex in Chichester Records Office. The degree encouraged me to develop skills such as public speaking, for research presentations, essay writing and examinations.

      Sept 2012 - Aug 2015
      Senior Laboratory Technician

My role was the quality control of manufactured animal and pet feed and raw materials. This involved performing on-plant representative and hygienic sampling, followed by in-lab NIR (Near-Infrared Spectroscopy) testing and the reporting of results. I performed ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) tests on finished feeds and raw materials for the presence of Mycotoxins such as Aflatoxin and Deoxynivalenol, as well as Caffeine-Theobromine and Morphine testing. I was primary lead for exports of feed abroad. These exports required a DEFRA veterinary to attend and complete a DEFRA certificate. This required a base knowledge of the DEFRA requirements for particular countries, and the ability to provide relevant paperwork. I was involved in the testing of forage samples, the interpretation and reporting of results to customers. This area of the business developed my customer service skills. After six-months I was promoted to Senior Laboratory Technician, and undertook a number of projects ranging from the design and manufacture of new products, understanding existing processes for efficiency, and training opportunities. I developed a base knowledge of animal nutrition by undertaking external training courses such as 'Equine Nutrition'.I did a HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) external course to understand how to implement a HACCP plan. This required a knowledge of the risks to the variety of animals that D&H manufactured for.I was involved with the NOPS (Naturally Occurring Prohibited Substances) procedures on site, and attended talks by BETA (British Equestrian Trade Association). In this topic I became an internal trainer for D&H staff, developing my presentation and training skills. I undertook roles in other areas including monitoring environmental outputs for site by collecting samples to test compliance for the Environmental Agency and daily checks of outputs to ensure compliance was maintained.
