  I joined Rover Cars as an indentured apprentice gaining an ONC Mech Eng and HND Prod Eng followed by a BSc Mech Eng after being employed as a Reliability Engineer. It was during this latter phase that I felt God's call to be a priest in the Church of England and I left for Oxford with my family in 1979.

  Hon Canon and priest in Oxford Diocese Alan became the Vicar/Rector of Effingham with Little Bookham until 1996. During this time he was the Director for Pastoral Assistants in the Dorkiing Archdeaconry. He was then Rector of Merrow until 2006 during which time he led his congregation in developing a £0.7m church centre. He then became a prison Chaplain being first the Coordinating Chaplain and subsequently Managing Chaplain in 2012 of HMP Woodhill. Alan was ordained deacon on 1982 and served his Title at St. Johns Perry Barr until 1985 and 2nd Curacy in Broseley with Benthall until 1987. I trained here for the Ministerial Priesthood gaining the Oxford Certificate in Theology ... My spiritual formation being most definitely established under Fr. David Hope ... Former Archbishop of York. I remain an Anglo Catholic priest and Benedictine Oblate of The Monastery of Our Lady and Saint John Alton.

  Alan is an Anglican priest who trained as a spiritual director under the tutelage of Fr. Raymond Avent at St. Vedast, Foster Lane and then at Margaret Street under Elizabeth Smyth and Kathleen Lyons in the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola. He is a Benedictine Oblate and currently a Managing Chaplain in prison. He is also undergoing formation in understanding and applying the Enneagram in the Narrative Tradition.   Spiritual Direction - informed by the Patterns of Developmental Pathways approach to the Enneagram. Having become familiar with the MBTI I am now a passionate advocate of the Enneagram as a way of growing towards self actualisation. Exploring our three centred of intelligence - the head, heart and mind - our learned and preferred coping strategy or defence becomes a vehicle for liberation and freedom from our passions or vices to growth of our virtues.
