  Xalon is an XR collective originally incubated at the Interactive Architecture Lab (The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL). As a constantly evolving community, Xalon collaborates with artists, researchers, architects, neuroscientists, programmers, performers, choreographers, chaos magicians, activists, and networks to develop conversations about community-building in extended reality.The project is a pop-up social XR experience inspired by Xenofeminism and Gertrude Stein's Parisian salons as spaces for radical inclusivity.   At AA Visiting School, Xalon strives to focus on bringing radical inclusivity in learning communities and belonging, while exploring a New Togetherness through hybrid ecologies. This summer, Xalon will take this opportunity to conduct interdisciplinary learning activities on a Virtual Reality platform to create Salon experiences.Xalon is critical of the current centralisation and techno-optimistic idealisation of technology. We question the originality and safety of creative technologies when they become proprietary for an exclusive group of people. While the metaverse may seem novel to some, Xalon introduces other predecessors of VR world-building practices and alternative ways of community-building.With the help of game engines, 3D modeling tools, and filmmaking technologies, students are expected to create a short XR film in groups to present their own interpretation of Xalon.
