  Civil Engineer

  I actively participated in a project of construction of the Proposed Faculty of Engineering University of Jayawardhanapura and it was a design and built project which consists of six five-story department buildings and two two-story buildings for a cafeteria and gymnasium. The project was organized into three zones, and I was assigned to zone three. Within zone three, my focus was primarily on buildings 5 and 6 which were the Administration building and the Mechanical Engineering Department, both of which were five-story buildings. During this hands-on experience, I became familiar with a range of construction activities, • Excavation works• Setting out works using total station and levelling works • Foundation construction (pad foundation, strip foundation, and raft foundation) • Structural components such as beams, columns, and slabs construction.   I had the opportunity to engage in two significant projects out of three in MWSIP, contributing to the Northwestern Province Canal project (NWPCP) ICB-2 package and the North Central Province Canal project (NCPCP) ICB-2B and ICB-2A packages orderly construction of the Kalugaga Moragahakanda transfer canal (KMTC) and construction of the Upper Elehera canal project (UECP). I could engage in consulting works of the construction-related works in these projects by representing the Engineer (consultant) party.In the NWPCP, I gained valuable experience in,• Construction of open canals (rectangular and trapezoidal canals), closed conduits (twin rectangular conduits, single rectangular conduits, and circular conduits). • Supporting works (shotcreting) of Nilagama and Ranwediyawa tunnels.In KMTC actively participated in,• Construction of canal elements such as aqueducts and concrete lining and shotcrete tunnels.• Widening of existing macadam roads for improved access. • Monitoring works of dam structures, particularly those associated with the Kalugaga and Moragahakanda reservoirs.In the construction of the Upper Elehera canal project (UECP), my experience expanded to tunneling techniques, including the use of the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM) and Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM). Here I experienced,• Tunnel excavation through blasting and TBM• Tunnel supporting works through rock bolting, wire meshing, lattice girder installation, shotcreting, and segment installation in TBM.• The tunnel segment production process• The environmental considerations in tunneling, including muck disposal and wastewater disposal.In these projects, I gained advanced knowledge in contract administration, laboratory tests, and the concrete batching process. This comprehensive training has equipped me with a diverse skill set, blending theoretical knowledge with practical application across various facets of civil engineering projects. Show less
