My job involved sourcing stories, through a variety of means including contacts, social media, and daily calls, and pitching five stories each morning.   I worked as a senior reporter for the Ham&High series, producing content primarily for the Ham&High Broadway and Wood&Vale newspapers. I was the only reporter working on both of these publications, and thus I took sole responsibility for sourcing and producing enough content to fill the editions. My job involved newsgathering; sourcing stories through contacts, social media, court hearings, inquests, and council meetings. I also published several stories online per day, taking care to maximize search engine optimisation, and published to the newspaper’s social media channels.   I worked as an online news reporter for the Evening Standard, covering mostly off-diary stories and breaking news. I aimed for a target of ten news stories per shift, always paying attention to search engine optimisation, and constantly looking for opportunities to improve pages by adding a picture gallery, a video, or by embedding social media posts. At weekends and on late shifts I took responsibility for all areas of the website, including picture editing and managing the homepage. On these shifts I also ran the paper’s Facebook and Twitter pages. During my time at the Standard I sourced and broke a number of big London stories, and also worked into the night during the November 2015 Paris attacks, ensuring our coverage was thorough and up-to-the-minute.
