      Hamish established Anderson Hand Therapy in 2002. The practice has worked from several locations, and is now concentrated in Melbourne's inner east. Hamish works closely with two of the surgeons from the Melbourne Orthopaedic Group, Mr Greg Hoy, and Mr Eugene Ek. Referrals also come through regularly from other specialist hand and upper limb surgeons, as well as general practitioners and physiotherapists. With Hamish assuming a role as Clinic Partner / Senior Hand Therapist with Action Rehab, appointments can be made by calling 1300 762227 for Tooronga and East Malvern, or Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre (1300 859 887).Hand therapy services are provided for anyone with hand and / or upper limb injuries including splinting, exercise provision and soft tissue treatment. The practice accepts referrals from general practitioners, other therapists, as well as the general public. A referral is not necessary unless the patient is under WorkCover, TAC, or DVA programs.       In 2012 Mr Greg Hoy asked Hamish to assist with the co-ordination of his research program. To date ethics applications have been approved for three research projects: radial collateral ligament repairs in AFL Footballers; the Modified Brunelli repair for scapho-lunate ligament injuries in AFL footballers; and trapezoidectomy plus suspensionplasty vs suspensionplasty alone, a functional and radiographical review. Four other ethics applications for projects are pending submission.

      After a period of time volunteering at the Hawthorn Football Club, Hamish was able to establish a need for regular on-site hand therapy services as part of the rehabilitation team. Hamish now works at the club on a regular basis making splints to protect injured hands and fingers, establishing exercise programs specific to each player, and treating hand and wrist injuries as they occur.

      Hamish was asked by the medical team at the Rebels to provide specialist hand therapy services to the team. He prescribes and provides specific rehabilitative programs for hand and wrist injuries that the players sustain. He also makes protective splints to protect the players on the park, as well as splints that rest the affected hand away from the game.

      Hamish was recently given the opportunity to work as a consultant hand therapist as part of the medical team for the Carlton Football Club's AFLW team. His role will be to manage and treat any hand and wrist injuries that occur throughout the 2020 AFLW season. This is the first time an AFLW team has had a specialised hand therapist on board in a direct capacity.
