Working as a waiter and a bartender through college allowed me to learn a number of valuable people skills. It taught me time management and how to set expectations. I learned how to interact and deal with both pleasant and unpleasant customers. Each meal and each drink served was a sales opportunity that developed my passion for wanting to work with people. Waiting tables and bartending also allowed me the highest income potential as opposed to an hourly wage. It set the stage for future positions where I made my living through commissions instead of a salary and I was able to graduate college debt free. Show less
