    • Susan E Wagner High School

      1990 - 1994

Although I was extremely athletic, I chose not to pursue sports. However, I did put a lot of focus on my social life. This unintentionally led to me developing my social skills, which I now use everyday.

      Sept 1995 - Jun 1999
      Waiter and Bartender

Every job I’ve had has been a building block leading me to where I am now. Each position has helped to enhance my skill sets and enlarge my knowledge base. Working as a waiter and a bartender through college allowed me to learn a number of valuable people skills. It taught me time management and how to set expectations. I learned how to interact and deal with both pleasant and unpleasant customers. Each meal and each drink served was a sales opportunity that developed my passion for wanting to work with people. Waiting tables and bartending also allowed me the highest income potential as opposed to an hourly wage. It set the stage for future positions where I made my living through commissions instead of a salary and I was able to graduate college debt free. Show less

    • Datek Securities Holding Corp

      Jun 1999 - Jan 2001
Online Brokerage Firm Securities Trade Order Support

Working at Daytek Securities set the next building block of my career. I gained significant knowledge and an understanding of equity markets. In this position, I placed securities orders over the phone for stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. At the same time, I was studying for my securities licenses, giving me both book smarts and real life experience simultaneously.

    • MetLife

      Jan 2001 - Dec 2003
      Financial Services Professional

This is where the rubber meets the road, where I really put those people skills I had learned to the test, smiling and dialing. I developed a thick skin during this time and learned to eat what I killed, meaning I lived strictly on commissions. I learned a lot in this position about what it means to have an entrepreneurial mindset. Doing joint work with newer agents inspired me to want to help other agents to grow and succeed in this industry. I also realized the impact that a financial services professional can have in someone’s life. Show less

    • Independent Advisor

      Jan 2004 - Dec 2004
      Financial Services Representative

I enjoyed my time working with MetLife but decided it was time to branch out on my own. I didn’t want to just sell products. I wanted to help my clients develop a more holistic financial plan. I worked diligently to expand my client base during this time and really succeeded in doing so. I became an MDRT Qualifier for the first time.

    • High Ridge Insurance Accocaties.

      Jan 2005 - Mar 2010
Independent General Agent Representing National Life Group and Mutual Of Omaha

As an independent advisor, I was able to really focus on developing my clientbase but I missed developing new agents and helping them to become successful. So I decided to start a scratch agency. Here’s where I really put what I had learned throughout all of my previous job experiences to the test. I learned how to run an agency budget and a home budget. I began a recruiting initiative where through personal observation, I started recruiting new agents into my firm. I then expanded into recruiting through job fairs and the internet. I took what I learned at my time with MetLife and expanded my knowledge and experience by developing these green tea agents. I created a marketing campaign where I expanded my clientbase even further through referrals, client appreciation dinners, and direct mailings. I did this all on my own capital. In addition to developing other agents, I continued to be a MDRT qualifier in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. Show less

    • Midland National Life

      Jan 2010 - Jan 2012
      Regional Sales Consultant/Recruiting General Agent

This was a different role, similar yet the same. What I found that I loved about it was that I was no longer recruiting people to my organization, I was recruiting people to the carrier. With that comes a whole different kind of relationship. A relationship where I’m partnering with the producer to help them maximize their practice and their income without having my hands in their pocket. In this new position, a new mindset and skill set needed to be developed. I was no longer a general agent or a producer. I was solely focused on hiring producers to be their own general agents. What I discovered was that you can have a deeper relationship when you are not receiving an override on a producer’s business. Show less
