Yoga Teacher Hatha yoga, pranayama, mantra yoga Yoga Teacher

Activities and Societies: A well-rounded and complete teacher training, spread over 5.5 years and comprising 550 contact hours. In addition to the long study period, this course distinguishes itself from other YTT programs in the depth of its curriculum. Not only are postures carefully examined, and pranayama explored deeply, but students learn to create and sequence their own practices. This lends the Viniyoga training a decidedly therapeutic bent, and equips graduates of this course able to work with very diverse students.

      Computer Centre Manager

Day to day management of a busy library computer centre - Microsoft products, one-to-one training of users, setting up email accounts to customers, printing, editing cv's...a bit of everything. A great introduction to the world of desktop computing.

    • Cable & Wireless Communications

      Jan 1999 - Apr 2000
Installations Team Leader/Leased Lines Installation Technician

I worked in the new service Installation team. I mainly configured CISCO routers for ISDN and Leased Line Services. I had to frequently customise installations, and even visit the POP's to cable up new customers. It was an intense and fast-paced environment. We did not have a 24-hour help desk. Rather, we took turns to carry a pager. I would often find myself in the middle of the night logged onto routers and servers and single-handedly fault-finding a customer's service. We used UNIX and LINUX servers, so I learned how to use the shell. Show less

    • Pilot Network Services, Inc.

      Apr 2000 - Jun 2001
      Technical Support Specialist

I worked for a very happy year at Pilot Network Services, in their London office. I was mainly addressing fault tickets, helping clients maintain access to their servers and keeping their remote networks connected. Pilot used an early model of network security that did the job, but was perhaps not scaleable based, at is was, on Cisco access lists. Sadly, we succumbed to the Dot.com bust and I lost my job. But, from my time at Pilot, I have kept some of my dearest tech contacts to this day.

    • Digex/ Worldcom

      Sept 2001 - Jul 2002
      Technical Account Manager

As the French-speaker on staff, I looked after our Paris-based clients' web hosting services. DIGEX hd been absorbed by Worldcom and we were integrating services across the Atlantic. The role fo the TAM was to interface with clients and help to meet their technical and commercial needs. Web hosting services were customised and scaled, and the TAM team was responsible to keeping them calm and satisfied throughout. I studied some Sun Server Administration, and 2/3 of the Cisco CCNP. But, I was tired of the demanding world of post dot-com bust tech and had had a serious bereavement. This was my last full-time tech job, although I never stopped hacking and tinkering. Show less

    • Rachel Rose

      May 2008 - Jan 2023
      Bodyworker (Massage therapist)

I have been a self-employed massage therapist since 2002, and holding my own in Spain since 2008. This is a competitive field in which a successful therapist has to unite many disparate qualities. Sensitivity to patients' needs, physical strength, a sensible character to manage the business aspects of the profession, the gumption to undertake continuing professional development and the determination to weather the inevitable ups and downs of bookings make this a tough business to succeed in. I pride myself on excellent client care, exceptional technique, and the serenity to hold space for the Other. I love my job, but recognise that it is a field in which advancement is difficult. I remember my massage teacher, Clare Maxwell-Hudson, saying that after a certain time, one "wants to do more than rub bodies". Indeed she was right. This is why I am polishing my LinkedIn profile. I am hopeful that the various skills I have honed over the years will serve me in new adventures. Specifically, I want to position myself as a writer of wellness and self-care articles. • Anémona Marina Baixa and MABS Cancer Support

      May 2008 - Dec 2016
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) Specialist and Yoga Teacher

I spent many years in oncological rehabilitation using the Manual Lymphatic Drainage and Complete Decongestive Therapy method, as taught by Drs. Foëldi and Foëldi in Hinterzarten, Germany and the Vodder method as taught by Anne Vadgama in London, England. In my years in Spain, I created two separate oncological rehabilitation programs. The first one was with MABS, in Teulada-Moraira, and the second one was with Anémona, in Benidorm. In both instances, the groups approached me and both had patients much in need of treatment, but unable to find a suitably qualified professional. With MABS, I started doing some home visits to their members, but then the group secured a treatment room. There, I advised about equipment, treatment protocol and patient rota. When I began, they were at ground zero for MLD treatments. After five years with MABS and helping many dozens of women affected by breast cancer, as well as a smaller number of people with other types of cancers, I helped with the training of another therapist and left to help another charitable group, Anémona. At Anémona, I found a similar situation to that which I encountered at MABS. There was a group of breast cancer patients with or at risk of lymphedema, and whose needs were not being met. Again, beginning at ground zero, the group provided a space and I did everything else. This time, I was working almost exclusively in Spanish, an additional challenge. I advised about equipment, patient care, rota, and provided assistance to the group far beyond the scope of my remit, specifically when their psychologist left and there was a support "black hole" for over a year. Having trained another therapist, I left the oncology world at the end of 2016.At Anémona, I taught yoga. I mentored a teacher through her training and handed the yoga groups over to her when I left.Oncology support is demanding. I feel that I truly made a difference by doing these jobs. I am proud of my achievement. Show less

    • Freelance

      Mar 2020 - now
      Freelance Writer

Seize the day, carpe diem, as they say. When work dried up due to COVID, the SHA marketing department contacted me about creating online content. Harnessing my digital skills, I wrote up a storm. I have been published in Vogue España, Vogue France, Harper's Bazaar UK and Elle España, as well as a number of middle-eastern publications. Writing has long been a passion of mine, and I am perhaps a dinosaur in thinking that print is still king. Even if it's pixels instead of ink, the typed word both hearkens back to the earliest age of information dissemination and keeps abreast of the most bleeding edge communications. Long shall I write, I can hardly help myself. Show less
