      I attended Royal Military College as a junior officer, then worked as a military engineer for several years following graduation. My duties included planning and execution of various construction projects (Bermuda, Ellesmere Island, Flin Flon Manitoba, Greenwood Nova Scotia) and engineering investigations (across Canada); management of a ~ 20-25 person engineering design office; deployment to former Yugoslavia for reconstruction of a war-damaged army camp; and instruction of new junior officers in leadership, management and airfield engineering.       Responsible for coordinating the planning and implementation of site investigation (by ESG Kingston), design (by ESG for Saglek and WESA Ottawa for PIN-3) and implementation (by various contracts) of environmental site remediation of a major PCB-contaminated site in northern Labrador (Saglek), and of dioxan, furan and metals-impacted site at Lady Franklin Point, Nunavut. Work included planning and leadership of stakeholder consultations with multiple levels of government, including federal, provincial and aboriginal (Labrador Inuit Association for Saglek, Kitikmeot Inuit Association and Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated for PIN-3).       My role was to manage this multi-year project for demolition and environmental remediation of 21 northern radar sites across Canada's arctic. My primary role was to lead the project management office, which was responsible for planning and execution of site investigations (completed by ESG Kingston), design (completed by UMA and EBA) implementation (contracts were initiated by tenders arranged by my staff) and post-clean up monitoring (through contracts arranged by my staff). I was also technical advisor in year-long negotiations between Department of National Defence and Nunavut Tunngavik for an economic cooperation agreement between the Inuit of Nunavut and Government of Canada, and coordinated regular Steering Committee meetings between the Government of Canada (represented by Director General Environment), the Inuit of Nunavut, and the Inuvialuit of the western Arctic. My work has been mainly focussed in the Americas, with projects in Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Saint Lucia, Dominican Republic, Papua New Guinea, Australia, Nepal, Alaska, Yukon, Nunavut, Northwest Territories, Quebec, Manitoba, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Newfoundland, northern Ontario, southeast Ontario and British Columbia. I am primarily interested in landslides and other geological hazards, with an emphasis on GIS-based mapping of landslide susceptibility, hazard and risk. Much of my work has involved the planning and execution of large, complex, multi-year foundation investigations for potential mines, and I have been extensively involved in geologic and geotechnical investigations for major pipeline projects, with an emphasis on geohazards.
