Under Dr. Ningkun Wang's guidance and membership, this lab focuses on the enzyme SIRT1. Specifically, the structure of the N and C terminals of SIRT1 and the allosteric interactions in the enzyme that regulate catalytic activity and substrate specificity.Current Project: Cloning hSIRT1-∆E2, a tissue-restricted isoform of SIRT1 and characterizing its enzyme activity. The goal of this project is to investigate the effects of removing Exon 2 (E2 domain) from full length SIRT1 to its activity and its interactions with various small molecules.Website: https://www.sjsu.edu/wang/ Show less -Facilitate chemistry workshops (SCI 1/CHEM 2) for 45+ students-Put together worksheets with problems that help improve understanding of general chemistry topics like significant figures, dimensional analysis, nomenclature, stoichiometry, bonding and molecular structure, thermochemistry, kinetics, equilibria, acid-base equilibria, solubility, electrochemistry, and nuclear chemistry-Coordinate discussion sections where students present or write on the board how they worked out the problem-Point out errors and provide clear and articulate explanations for CHEM 1A/1B (General Chemistry) topics Show less
