      Intern Mechanical Engineer

As an Intern Mechanical Engineer, I was tasked to use the technical skills and knowledge from my undergraduate studies and apply them in improving the processes used in the design and manufacturing solutions at Sigrist Design. In my brief time with the company, I achieved the following:- Created a tool for calculating the loss coefficients/minor losses of ventilation systems due to the presence of section changes (inlet/outlet losses, expansions/contractions, in-duct diffuser, plain radius & mitre bends losses due to various angles of bend, branch losses etc.). The creation of this tool means these values can be calculated analytically rather than interpreted from loss curves and tables from books.- Designed and drafted rounding tools to be bespoke fit to a hydraulic sheet metal roller to allow for the rounding of flat bars of 3 different profiles. Having these tools specially designed and manufactured means 3 different types of bars can be rounded on the same tool rather than purchasing 3 different tools with individual profiles at a much higher cost.- Implemented an online form & spreadsheet interface to improve the process of employee performance evaluation, peer evaluation comparisons, and trace changes in performance over a course of periods.- Upskilled in inventory management systems- Gained insight into sales engineering and in-house manufacturing of HVAC systems Show less

      Intern Upstream Field Inspections Engineer

Project: Legacy TEG Reconcentrator Package - Remaining Life AssessmentIn the Shell Assessed Internship Program, I was an Intern Field Inspection Engineer under the Mechanical & Asset Integrity Team at QGC, based in Chinchilla. My project involved collating the historic inspection reports regarding the thickness testing of vessel wall and nozzle thicknesses. These were loaded into an Integrity Management System for corrosion rate analysis to assess the remaining life of 9 different reconcentrator packages, totalling in 45 Vessels. I reviewed and made key changes to the Equipment Inspection Scope Documentation and completed a full study document to summarise the findings of my remaining life assessment - both of which are documents which will be used as a basis for future inspections, repair and replacement decisions. This eventuated in a final assessment in which I delivered a 15 minute presentation to the Asset Integrity and Engineering team, where I provided my findings to inform the future maintenance strategy. In this position I was able to - Learn Risk Based Inspection methodology - Apply API 510 and API 579 standards to the assessment of remnant equipment life and fitness for service - Generate a decision making framework for analysing trends of data in Integrity Management. - Apply engineering judgement to validate/invalidate the integrity of data - Upskill in SQL and Data Scientific capabilities - Acquired in-depth understanding of Gas-TEG Dehydration processes, corrosion mechanisms and process management - Established the Thickness Monitoring Inspection Scopes - Engaged with multiple stakeholders in a positive manner - Shadow various inspections of well sites, observing NDT Testing Methods with NDT Technicians - Observe and assist in on-site vibrational analysis and vibrational impact testing - Gain exposure to well sites, Central Processing Plants, Field Compression Stations, Water Treatment Plant and Power Station facilities.
