      Personal Secretary

My first job, I managed scheduling, correspondence and communication for a busy executive at a financial service agency for people in the entertainment industry. We were located below the prestigious William Morris Agency at that time, so I rode the elevator with the likes of Michael Jackson, Cher, Dolly Parton and Tony Curtis. Exciting job for a teenager. Mr. Curtis told his manager that I had a beautiful smile.

    • JW Robinsons

      Jan 1980 - Jan 1984
      Manager, Credit Department

I was the youngest person to successfully managed a credit office with a staff of 6 part-time employees. I studied the pitfalls of being a 20-something leader of a significantly older staff, learning how to earn respect through courtesy, patience, listening and professionalism. Few people came to the credit office happy unless they were making a simple payment. But I loved the customer service challenge of helping customers successfully resolve issues, going the extra mile to research and unravel even the most complicated account issues. Show less

    • Morrison Communications

      Jan 1994 - Jan 2007

Established and maintained the Los Angeles portion of the International Clothesline Project. Like the AIDS QUILT, this project focus public attention on difficult to discuss forms of violence against women and children; child sexual assault, gang rape, domestic violence, rape, and incest. I went directly into area crisis centers and shelters, bringing materials that allowed survivors to express themselves by sharing their stories, feelings, and angst on tee shirts. I then worked with public schools and organizations to display the shirts as a means of public education and survivor support. Traveling from Santa Barbara to Orange County and Washington D.C., I grew this survivor-focused educational program to over 1,200 tee shirts and was frequently interviewed by media outlets. Show less Hired by both Los Angeles Commission on Assaults Against Women (now Peace Over Violence) and Valley Trauma Center to help establish Sexual Assault Awareness Month events and activities in Greater Los Angeles, including Denim Day in L.A. I provided comprehensive event organizing and media coordination in collaboration with agency staff.Participated in Media Training for statewide crisis centers for the newly established California Coalition Against Sexual Assault (CalCASA) in association with Los Angeles Commission on Assaults Against Women. I offered personalized assistance to 135 students and their families, answering questions and troubleshooting concerns. Making sure our customers had the best possible experience at our school.I work hard to keep our curricula up-to-date with our student's diverse needs. I'm always looking for ways to inspire students with new ways of thinking about and being leaders, encouraging them to develop and practice reaching their own goals.I developed a for teaching students with physical and cognitive special needs from the time I qualified as an instructor. Whenever students with special needs would come in to the school where I worked, they would be referred to me due to my patient, personal approach. I simply fell in love with each individual I taught, and worked hard to find adaptive ways to help them overcome specific whatever issues presented. To me, this is really the same process regardless of whether a student is typical or atypical. What I learned from my students inspired me to open my own studio; a training facility dedicated to providing a wider range of services to under-served populations. Bright Star ATA Martial Arts now provides private Adaptive Physical Education (APE), Small Group Social/Physical Skills classes, Supported Mainstream, and Mainstream classes. I strive to break barriers between neuro-typical and a-typical children. Show less
