Also, train others on board ship of firefighting and repairs of damage to its infrastructure.   Fire Captain Philadelphia Fire Department - Fire Captain directs the activities of Fire personnel during an assigned shift. An employee in this class supervises a number of personnel and has responsibility for their safety. Duties include: assigning, directing, and supervising firefighting, medical emergencies, and related life and property protection; directing the route to be taken to emergency calls; implementing and/or integrating into an incident management system; making decisions regarding firefighting methods to be used; deploying and managing personnel; ensuring the safe operation of fire equipment and apparatus; and assisting Fire Community Services with, and participating in, public education, community relations, and fire prevention programs and activities.   Fire Captain, Operation

  As Operation Captain of the Fire Code Unit, I supervise three (3) Fire Lieutenants and ensure fire safety by adherence to the city’s Fire Code. This is accomplished through the inspection of properties for variance requests to deviate from the requirements of the Fire Code, fire hazard complaints and fire safety inspections. The unit also performs a complete revision of the city’s fire code every three years. They also perform plan review of fire protection equipment and systems for new construction and renovations upon request, review and approve plans for exhibitions and trade shows, and review and approve requests for the use of fireworks and explosives. Shift Commander works in coordination with Airport Maintenance in planning, organizing, and directing technical work in airport operations and certification. In the absence of the Airport Fire Chief is responsible for airport fire station security, safety and all emergency responses including medical.
