      At this position, I developed Walla Walla Dirt Day, an educational celebration all about the value of soil and compost. I also provided educational lessons about composting, recycling, and general waste reduction in local schools. The most fun activity was developing and acting in a series of videos with other Americorps members that were shown in the local elementary schools, featuring Captain Recycling, Dirt Boy and the Waste Witch!

      At this position I learned more about natural resource conservation work, first-hand. I participated in habitat restoration projects, greatly expanded my knowledge of native plants and noxious weeds, and led educational lessons in local schools about the salmon life cycle, habitat, composting, native plants and stewardship.
