  Fulfilling a role as Media Specialist Eating Disorders hits home for me. As someone with lived experience with eating disorders and as a writer, I know all too well that the power of words works both ways. Several Dutch organisations and the government have collaborated in an effort to ensure that media representations are helpful rather than unintentionally harmful for people with or susceptible to eating disorders.To this end, the NAE (Nederlandse Academie voor Eetstoornissen / Dutch Academy for Eating Disorders) has carefully comprised a guide on how to represent eating disorders in the media.The Dutch Eating Disorder Patient Association, WEET, has launched a website to offer a safe alternative to websites that promote eating disorders.Both projects aim to raise awareness and create a safer online space.As a Media Specialist, I will be involved in both projects.
