  Elucidation of gene expression in the context of constitutive heterochromatin. Utilizing Drosophila as a model system, identifying the motifs necessary to allow genes to be turned on and off even in an environment of repressive chromatin will allow us to understand mechanisms by which organisms control gene expression and potential problems that may occur when this regulation goes awry.This project is part of the Genomics Education Partnership.
