  Title: Deep Learning Models to Predict Sequence-Defined Properties of Polymers | Dr. Tarak Kumar PatraMotivation:-- No guidelines exist on how to build an optimized Deep Learning (DL) model to truly harness the power of Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) in molecular science.-- Machine Learning (ML) frameworks require a lot of data for training, and there is no comprehensive understanding of the amount of training data required for building a DNN model that can predict a wide variation in a material’s property.Progress: -- Came up with a computationally cheap algorithm to optimize hyperparameters of DNNs that can predict polymerproperties.-- Implemented these approaches for three representative cases of building sequence-property metamodels, viz., the single-molecule radius of gyration of a copolymer, adhesive-free energy of a copolymer, and copolymer compatibilizer, demonstrating the generality of the proposed strategies.-- Mapped the discrete sequence space of a polymer to a continuous one-dimensional latent space using a ML pipeline to identify minimal data points for building a universal DL model.Impact:The work is published in Royal Society of Chemistry’s Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics journal where it was selected as the Hot Article of 2023, and it establishes efficient methods for building universal deep-learning models with minimal data and hyperparameters for predicting sequence-defined properties of polymers.
