      Previous member of two country sheriff search and rescue teams and National Park Service. Respond to missions involving lost or trapped people in mountain and desert environments, all seasons and all types of weather and in temperatures from -44 to 122 F temperatures. Conduct training classes and evaluations.

      What a cool job (didn't pay much as a seasonal though). Doing everything from leading nature hikes for kids to search and rescue for downed aircraft and everything in between. Before going to Mt Lassen I frostbit my toes on Denali helping a sick climber down off the mountain...that ended my NPS seasonal work as I couldn't wear shoes for 4months...kind of hard being the backcountry ranger at Lassen if I couldn't wear shoes ( :

      Fight fires and respond to traffic accidents and do medical aids. Inspect, maintain and repair fire engine, equipment and station, train new recruits, we were a volunteer/pcf fire station and I was the longest such person at our station; normally I responded after my teaching job in the evenings, weekends, and during the summer. Training includes EMT-1A, Pump Operator, Swift Water, Technical Rope, OES and Officer School.

      Assist museums in fossil excavations (mostly of Cretaceous and Jurassic age fossils) and in museum lab preparation of fossils. One paid position involved emergency excavation of a sauropod found during an oil and gas pipeline excavation.
